MEET THE TEAM

Frederick Swain

Owner/Head Optometrist
eyeguy@frederickswain.co.nz

Frederick graduated from Auckland University in 1973 and joined Barrie Russell in Napier after a brief time in Otago.

His specific interests lie in speciality contact lenses fitting and in children’s vision associated with learning difficulties, but he also appreciates all aspects of optometry practice and always enjoys meeting new people and old friends.

“I cherish the Hawkes Bay environment having participated in many sports & outdoor pursuits including active involvement with Westshore Surf Lifesaving Club with my 3 children.
Now there is time outside the practice to spend with the grandchildren and riding the cycle trails.”

Mark Jones

Optometrist

Mark graduated from Cardiff University in 1984 and has worked in a variety of practices in both the UK and New Zealand.

He has enjoyed the many outdoor pursuits and relaxed lifestyle Hawke’s Bay has to offer since moving to the bay.

“I look forward to taking care of, and helping my new and existing patients satisfy their optical needs whether that be with glasses or contact lenses”.

Leigh Swain

Ocular Prosthetist
leigh@frederickswain.co.nz

Leigh specialises in the making of customised prosthetic eyes and cosmetic shell/haptic lens fitting.

Prosthetic or artificial eyes have been manufactured at this practice for over 40 years. Leigh took on this speciality of the practice full time in 2001 after tutelage with Barrie Russell.

Leigh places her emphasis on the satisfaction and well-being of every patient. Her skill and expertise are equally matched by her personalised care for patients and attention to detail.

“The best reward for me is to know that the client is leaving the practice with renewed confidence in their appearance and a boost to their self esteem”.

Kerry Tobin

Optometrist Assistant/Receptionist
kerry@frederickswain.co.nz

Kerry has “clocked up” a lot of years in the optometry sector during which time has become very experienced “across the board” with the many facets of the industry, both clinical and retail.

During this time she has retained a complete passion and enthusiasm for the ever changing face of modern optometry.

“To love being a team member of Frederick Swain Optometrists as much as I do plus to be paid for doing it has to be a total ‘win-win’ in my book”.

Kirstin Formosa

Kirstin has been with Frederick Swain Optometrists since May 2012 working in the accounts area.  She enjoys this role as it is varied and sometimes challenging.   Kirstin had previously worked for us in our reception and showroom before leaving to have a family.

Originally from Wellington, Maria joins Frederick Swain Optometrists as the Dispensing Technician, bringing with her 31 years of experience in the optometry industry.  Customer care, service and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to Maria; always offering sound advice on eye and lens care, style choice and lens and frame selections.
